Composer Mr. Chan Nang Jai passed away in March 2025 at the age of 85. Mr. Chan graduated from the Composition Department of the Central Conservatory of Music in his early years and devoted his life to musical creation, leaving countless classic works for posterity. The 'Music Has Dreams' memorial concert is hosted by the 'Hong Kong Bauhinia Chinese Orchestra', which was founded by Mr. Chan in his early years, with the hope that through music, the audience can revisit the classic pieces composed by Mr. Chan and pay tribute to his artistic achievements and profound respect.

The 'Music Has Dreams' memorial concert specially invites the famous international conductor Dr. Stone Xin Zhi to take the baton. Dr. Stone had a close collaboration with Mr. Chan and is accurate and precise in interpreting the original intention of Mr. Chan's musical works, handling the music with subtlety and emotion; the concert also invites performers Ms. Xin Xiaohong and Ms. Guo Jiaying, who have participated in the premiere of Mr. Chan's works, to perform on stage. In addition, there are also Mingyi Choir and Gaoshan Chengyun Choir performing together to interpret Mr. Chan's classic works. The highlight of the concert is Mr. Chan's large-scale symphonic choral work 'Journey of the Army', which is also his representative work. Before his passing, Mr. Chan had a wish to restage this masterpiece from his youth on stage. This memorial concert not only showcases the artistic charm of this large-scale work but also hopes to fulfill Mr. Chan's long-cherished desire.

In order for the audience to have a deeper understanding of Mr. Chan Nang Jai's artistic life, the orchestra will hold a pre-concert lecture titled 'Music Has Dreams - The Musical Life of Chan Nang Jai' on Thursday, November 13, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm at the Sheung Wan Civic Centre Lecture Hall, with Dr. Zheng Xueran as the speaker.

The Hong Kong Bauhinia Chinese Orchestra would like to pay tribute to Mr. Chan Nang Jai's outstanding contributions and achievements in music through this concert and lecture, and we hope that his spirit of pursuing the 'music dream' will be passed on from generation to generation.
